What is Image Processing?

Image Processing is a method used to digital form the image and performs some operations, to obtain specific images or to extract some useful information from them. It is a type of signal dispensation in which input is the image, like a video frame or photograph and output may be an image or characteristics associated with that image. The input of this method is an image such as a video clip or a photo. Its output corresponds to the part of the image that needs wish or attention. Generally, the Image Processing system treats images as two-dimensional signals while applying predetermined Signal Processing methods.

Nowadays, image processing systems used by businesses in various aspects are among the rapidly growing technologies. Image Processing constitutes the basic research area in engineering and computer science disciplines.

Image processing basically includes the following three steps.

· Taking the image with an optical scanner or digital photographs.

· Analyze-use image containing non-human eye spotting patterns such as data compression, image enhancement and satellite photos.

· Output modified based on image analysis of results, ready to use.

Purpose of image processing

The purpose of image processing is divided into 5 groups. These are:

1. Visualization – Observing hard-to-see objects

2.Image sharpening and restoration – Enhancing noisy images

3.Image acquisition – Searching for attractive and high-resolution images

4. Pattern Recognition – Identifying various objects in an image.

5. Image Recognition – Distinguishing objects in an image.

Face recognition is one of the most used image processing branches in our country and in the world. Technically, following the deep learning methodology, the specific features of human faces are first taught to the machine. Descriptive features such as the distance between the two eyes and the shape of the average human face serve as metrics for the formation of the face shape. After teaching the human-specific criteria of the face, it accepts all objects similar to the same shape in the image as a face. Face recognition is accomplished by making the specific metrics that make up the face unique to humans.


The two methods used for Image Processing are Analog and Digital Image Processing. Analogue or visual image processing techniques can be used for hard copies such as photocopies and photographs. When using these visual techniques, image analysts base your interpretation on a variety of grounds. Image processing should not be limited to technical knowledge, but should also be based on the imagination and thinking ability of engineers. Another important tool in the field of image processing with visual techniques is raw data, ie the image collected and unprocessed in the past. Analysts teach the system past transactions related to the products they want to identify. As a deep learning arm, Image Processing works in the light of historical data.

Digital Processing techniques help manipulate digital images with computers. Images taken from the satellite platform include incomplete due to sensor error. In order to overcome these flaws and achieve the authenticity of the information, it has to go through various processing steps. There are three general stages that any data must go through when using the digital technique; Pre-processing, development, and display are information extraction.
